General Hospital Monday, June 17 Recap: Gio’s Mother Tragedy, Liz Stops Finn’s Return to Work

General Hospital (GH) spoilers recap for Monday, June 17, reveals that Portia Robinson (Brook Kerr) ran into Elizabeth Baldwin (Rebecca Herbst) and shared what she thought was good news since Hamilton Finn (Michael Easton) was cutting his family bereavement leave short.

Once Liz found out Finn would be resuming work tomorrow, she insisted on speaking with Portia privately right away.

After they stepped in Portia’s office, Elizabeth admitted that Finn was still drinking and that the situation had escalated.

Liz mentioned that was the reason she ended their relationship and explained about finding Finn with a random woman as well as a bottle of tequila.

However, it was Finn’s angry response to Liz’s concerns that really troubled her.

Elizabeth confessed that she feared for Violet Finn (Jophielle Love) and felt she had to come clean about this if Finn was returning to work, where he could put patients at risk.

Liz hoped that Portia could convince Finn to go to rehab, so Portia absorbed all this information and thanked her for doing the right thing.

At the Metro Court pool, Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell) led a blindfolded Willow Corinthos (Katelyn MacMullen) into her birthday party, so she was delighted over all the guests once he unveiled the surprise.

Once Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros) showed up looking for Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison) under the guise of Crimson business, he did his part by approaching Willow and Michael to ask if she could stay.

Willow walked over to Nina and invited her to stick around, so a grateful Nina wished her a happy birthday and shared a sweet moment with her daughter.

Carly Spencer (Laura Wright) wondered how Michael felt about Nina staying for the bash, but Michael pointed out that he wouldn’t try to interfere again despite his lingering concerns.

Once Carly confronted Drew over helping Nina, he talked about letting go of his rage.

Drew also confessed that he needed Nina and rattled off a list of ways she was helpful – including her assistance with Willow’s spokesperson gig.

Although Carly didn’t want Drew pushing for a reconnection between Willow and Nina, Drew acted like he just wanted to do what was best for Willow.

Back with Nina, she spoke to Curtis Ashford (Donnell Turner) about being able to put up with Drew for Willow’s sake.

Next, Willow offered Chase condolences over the loss of Gregory Chase (Gregory Harrison) before they reflected on their former relationship and their marriages now. Both Chase and Willow felt that wound up exactly where they were supposed to be.

Giovanni “Gio” Palmieri (Giovanni Mazza) felt awkward about being at Willow’s party since he barely knew her, but he told Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy) that Olivia Quartermaine (Lisa LoCicero) and Lois Cerullo (Rena Sofer) wanted him there because they feared he was lonely.

In a private moment with Carly and Josslyn, Brook Lynn Quartermaine (Amanda Setton) told them about Gio’s dad dying in the military before he was born.

It turns out Gio’s mom – who was a concert violinist – also died when Gio was 10 years old.

Fortunately, all the Falconeris and Cerullos pitched in so that Gio still had a happy family who raised him.

At one point, Cody Bell (Josh Kelly) let Chase know he was sorry about his dad, so Chase spoke about cherishing the time he had with Gregory.

That got Cody thinking about Mac Scorpio (John J. York), so he admitted that to Sasha Gilmore Corbin (Sofia Mattsson) later.

Over with Drew again, he let Michael and Curtis know that he was officially running for Congress.

Drew also planned to change his name to Quartermaine since it was more recognizable – though he acknowledged that he’d have to overcome the privilege associated with that name.

Willow got updates from Michael afterward and decided to hype Drew up once it was time for her birthday cake.

Once Willow blew out her candles and made a wish, she encouraged Drew to make a speech.

Drew announced his run for Congress, so Willow said that the best present any of them could give her would be to vote for Drew.

At Finn’s place, he put the booze away as Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn) arrived.

Alexis made sure Violet was asleep before addressing all the concerns about Finn’s drinking.

Finn drank right in front of Alexis and acted like he had nothing to hide.

However, Alexis tricked Finn into thinking Violet was behind him at one point and got him a bit panicked.

Alexis knew only Finn could admit he had a problem and get the help he needed, but she urged him to head to rehab for Violet.

Finn refused, so Alexis told him to call her when he hit rock bottom and offered a prediction about it happening sooner than he expected.

Once Finn was alone as Monday’s GH episode wrapped up, he cried as he sat there with his tequila glass.

General Hospital spoilers say Finn could indeed hit rock bottom faster than he thinks, so stay tuned!
