General Hospital’s Steve Burton Confesses Out-of-Character Writing Decision, Reveals What Jason Will Never Do Again
General Hospital (GH) spoilers reveal that Steve Burton (Jason Morgan) recently opened up about an issue he had with the writing on the ABC soap. On the Daily Drama podcast, Bradford Anderson (Damian Spinelli) asked Burton about a particular moment that aired in GH’s June 10 episode and got the story behind it.
Of course, we want to point out that Burton certainly wasn’t making a huge deal out of the situation. Burton shared some laughs with Anderson about this, so it was all in good fun.
That said, it was interesting to hear Burton’s take on the scenes where Jason and Elizabeth Baldwin (Rebecca Herbst) were seen “cooling their paws in the pool” as Anderson put it.
When Anderson asked how that came about, Burton confirmed that it was in the script and admitted he wasn’t exactly thrilled about rolling up his pants to dip his feet in.
“This is the thing: They write it; you do it,” Burton said. “I wasn’t a fan of it…I’m not Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer throwing my feet in the pond. And I’m not 97!”
With all that in mind, Burton said he asked if the whole feet dipping thing was necessary. Although Burton wondered if he really had to do it, he was told they indeed wanted him to.
At that point, Burton decided to just go with it despite his lack of enthusiasm – though he made it clear this was a one-time deal!
“I said, ‘OK, Merry Christmas ‘cause this will never happen again,” Burton added with a chuckle.
All joking aside, Burton ultimately insisted it was fine and supported the intention of the scenes, which reinforced the friendship between Jason and Elizabeth.
The real issue was that Burton just didn’t think it was something Jason would do, but he took one for the team and plopped his feet in anyway.
It seems like the writers also knew it was a rather out-of-character move for Jason since Liz couldn’t believe she got him take his shoes off and join her. That news shocked even Elizabeth, so it’s nice that the show acknowledged that.
In the end, it was cute to see Jason supporting Liz in her time of need, even if it meant a silly little moment with some wet toes for Jason!
General Hospital spoilers say Jason has more dramatic material on the way, so we’ll bring you predictions on his next curveballs and updates on any tight spots he’ll land in.
