There were times that we thought this day would never come. But now at last it’s here: Jonathan Jackson is reprising his role of Lucky Spencer on General Hospital later this summer for what our sister site Deadline says will be a “long run.”

The five-time Emmy winner first played the son of supercouple Luke and Laura Spencer back in 1993. The character was later recast, first with Bold & Beautiful vet Jacob Young (ex-Rick), then with Greg Vaughan (Eric, Days of Our Lives). Jackson made his last visit to Port Charles back in 2015 to help facilitate the retirement of on-screen dad Anthony Geary.

Despite his time(s) away from the soap, the fan favorite maintained that it was a home away from home for him. As he told Dishing With Digest in 2021, “When I left in 1999, I always had it in my mind to come back periodically, so I’m always open to that. I’ve never really been of the mentality of closing that door.” Watch the video below to see what Jackson has to say about his imminent homecoming.

In real life, Jackson is married to a former General Hospital co-star with whom he has three children. (More on that here.) His gigs beyond the soap include such movies as The Deep End of the Ocean (with Michelle Pfeiffer) and a regular role on primetime’s Nashville.

Looks like Jason may not have such a clear path back to ex-wife Elizabeth after all! We had been thinking that General Hospital might have been delaying giving Steve Burton a new love interest until it could break up Rebecca Herbst’s character and Michael Easton’s Finn. Now we’re wondering if we may be in for a new addition to soaps’ all-time greatest triangles.
