In the PCPD interrogation room, Jason realizes Sonny didn’t answer that call, so he asks Anna who did. Anna clams up and says he’s free to go. Jason says he’s trusted her with everything, so trust him. Anna admits it was Valentin as she wipes away tears. She says as she told him before that it was Valentin who brought the offer to Sonny in the first place from Pikeman, but she thought he was a go-between. However, when she heard his voice, it all hit her. This is a tried-and-true WSB tactic, and Valentin’s taking advantage of the tension between him and Sonny and hiring hitmen with whom Sonny has worked with in the past.
Anna asks Jason if he thought Sonny may have put the hit out. He says he did for a second, but Sonny is innocent. Anna says Sonny is not innocent by a long shot, and he’s still protecting him. Jason points out that she wanted to cover for Valentin, and he needs to know why Valentin wants him dead.
Anna reminds Jason that he infiltrated Pikeman and knows too much, so as this hit appears to have come from Sonny, that takes out Sonny, which paves the way for Pikeman to do whatever they want in Port Charles. She says this is classic Valentin, and he and Brennan were already very close to begin with. When she mentioned their friendship to Valentin, he claimed they barely knew one another. She realizes Valentin is now running Pikeman with Brennan in prison. Jason thanks her for giving him what he needed.
Jason says that he can give Cates the head of Pikeman and get his life back. Anna says she can’t let him do that. She says she didn’t record the conversation, so they have no proof. She argues Valentin will outmaneuver Cates easily if Cates goes after him, and then the FBI will never let Jason go. Jason says he’ll get the evidence they need from Valentin then. She asks how he’s going to get the evidence. Jason explains he’s going to search his house, but Anna says his security will shoot him, and Valentin will know his cover is blown. Jason reminds her he’s good at this, but she says he’s not as good as the WSB-trained Valentin.
Anna has another strategy and she’ll get the evidence. She notes she doesn’t even have to break in, as Valentin will invite her in. Jason asks if she doesn’t think Valentin suspects her. Anna knows he does, but he also loves her, and she can get the evidence. However, she’ll need time. Jason argues he can’t keep waiting; it’s been two years for him as is. Anna again says the only way to take Valentin down is for her to do it. He asks if it’s too personal for her. She says she can do this, but she needs backup, and that needs it to be him. He agrees to do it her way.
Drew stops by Carly’s place, and she asks what is up. He says he’s thinking of running for public office. She asks if this is a joke, if so, she doesn’t get it. He says he’s thinking of running for Congress. She’s shocked and asks why. He tells her that their congressman is not seeking reelection and wants to endorse him for his seat. She asks how he even knows the congressman. He explains Nina introduced them, and he was friends with Nina’s father. He tagged along with Nina when she met with him to pitch an urban renewal project. Drew says he signed on and then suggested he run for his seat.
Carly asks if he is here for her to talk him into it or out of this. He says he knows if he signs on for this, the first thing that will come up is… Carly says his stint in Pentonville. Drew says her name will come up, too, so how does she feel about that? He says she’ll have people banging on her doors. She says she has security and Jason. She apologizes for that comment but also points out that Jason is his brother so that ties him to organized crime. She says this is a lot to take on, and it’s a long shot that he’d win. He says he’s still weighing the options, but he thinks he could do a lot to help people. He also says the fact that he served his country, is involved in an urban renewal project and works with a non-profit dealing with cancer balances things out. Carly knows Oscar would be proud of him. Drew feels it’s why he has to give this a try.
Carly says if McConky wants Drew to replace him then do it. She says if he crashes and burn, then at least he tried. Drew again asks what about her. She insists she’ll be fine as she’s had a lot of practice saying, “No comment.” He thanks her and heads out.
Chase brings home a box with his dad’s ashes. Brook Lynn asks why not an urn? He explains it’s called a scattering box. He says tomorrow, after his ashes are scattered, his dad will truly be gone. They sit down, and Chase knows a burial is permanent and would give him a spot to visit, but this feels like he’s throwing him away. Brook Lynn they could keep him here on the mantel so he could see him and talk to him. Chase says Finn won’t go for that, and it’s his job to ensure his father’s wishes are honored. She says to think of it this way: his dad will now be everywhere, so wherever Chase goes, his dad will be there. She also says Gregory’s spirit will live on in him, along with his goodness and values.
Chase says he wishes he could have another day, another week, another year with his dad. However, that would mean wheelchairs and ventilators, and he would have hated that. He was struggling as is, and he kept his promise to be at their wedding. He knows his dad went on his own terms, in peace and without pain. He says even so, he wants him back. Brook Lynn tells him that it’s okay to miss him but also to let him go and celebrate the rich life he lived. Chase knows his dad made the most of every single day he had after finding out his diagnosis. He says he didn’t lose his battle with ALS instead he won it. He must follow in his footsteps, pursue joy, and not waste happiness. It’s the best way to honor his dad. She agrees. She says he’s a wonderful man, and he inherited the best parts of his father.
Chase notes he may have also inherited a predisposition to ALS. Brook Lynn says if that happens, it happens, but Chase insists he doesn’t want her to have to take care of him. She tells him the chances are less than ten percent, which could be the same statistics as randomly getting it. She says heck, she could be the one to get it. He tells her not to say that as he couldn’t bear it. She asks if he’d stand by her, and he reminds her, “In sickness and in health.” She says they are in this for the long hall, whatever happens, they stick together. He agrees and they kiss.
Liz stops by Finn’s place with butterscotch brownies that Aiden made, as they are Violet’s favorite. He hoped they would help a little and knows tomorrow will be a hard day. She looks around, and Finn says he hasn’t been drinking if that’s what she’s looking for. She says that isn’t what she was looking for, but she is here to check in with him and to support him because she loves him.
They sit down, and Finn wishes he could undo what he said to her, but he can’t. All he can do is keep getting better and move forward. He explains he’s going to two meetings a day, and he isn’t going to drink again. However, he isn’t an alcoholic, he was addicted to the drugs that kept him alive while searching for a cure to Blackwood’s. Once he got clean, he decided not to drink out of caution. Finn says alcohol was never really the problem. Liz says it’s her understanding that AA focuses on the methods of staying sober and not slipping, not what the actual problem was. He agrees, and he only drank after finding his dad, but has no desire to drink again.
Finn swears he won’t take the risk of drinking again. Liz looks around and says it really does feel empty without his dad, and she offers to keep him company. He thanks her but says he needs more time alone. She understands and hugs him. They share a kiss as well. She says she should go home, and he asks her to thank Aiden for the brownies. She will and says she’ll see him tomorrow. She leaves, and Finn is in tears. Finn grabs his father’s cane and begins to sob uncontrollably.
At the warehouse, Cates barges in and confronts Sonny. He says he has a few questions about the attempted murder of Jason Morgan. Cates says his men made a real mess of things. He laughs that Jason walked away, so Sonny needs to hire better guys. Diane calls that slander, and she will not let Sonny answer any more of his questions. Cates is glad to hear her say that, as he can arrest Sonny and question him at the PCPD. Diane asks on what grounds? He says for the attempted murder of Jason. Diane suggests the ones who tried to kill Jason should be arrested. Cates reveals they’ve identified one of the hitmen as someone connected to an organization that Sonny has done business with in the past. Diane points out he forgot to use the word “allegedly,” and this is flimsy evidence at best.
Diane says his superiors will receive a complaint for harassing her client, or perhaps if he wants to think this over, he will realize he was a little hasty. Cates says they can wait until the rest of the evidence comes in. He turns to leave, and Sonny gloats, “Bye, Jagger!” Cates says the best part of this is he’s going to go down for killing Jason, the last in his line of proteges after Karen and Stone. What’s sad is he took a young kid with brain damage, turned him into an enforcer, and then turned on him and tried to kill him. He smiles and says he’ll love seeing him behind bars once and for all.
After Cates leaves, Diane asks if Sonny really had nothing to do with this. Sonny says he had nothing to do with this, did she think he did? Diane admits she did, and she’s not alone.
Sonny stops by Carly’s and has something to tell her face-to-face. He swears he had nothing to do with what happened tonight. He relays what happened to Jason, which he learned about from Brick, and swears it wasn’t him. He says Cates thinks he ordered the hit, and even his own lawyer doesn’t believe in him, but he’s telling her that it wasn’t him.
Carly says she believes him. He says to tell Jason that he’s still angry and wants Jason out of the biz, but he didn’t try and kill him. Carly says to tell Jason himself. She says deep down he knows Jason isn’t his enemy; otherwise, why else would he be here? She says if he really believed Jason turned against him, he wouldn’t give a damn if Jason thinks he tried to kill him. Sonny rants that Jason is an FBI informant; in his world, that means you have no code or honor, and he wants nothing to do with him. He storms out.
