Even fans knew that he wouldn’t be gone for too long. General Hospital star John J. York, who is best known for his role as Mac Scorpio on the hit ABC soap, has opened up about his return to Port Charles.

As many General Hospital fans are aware of by now, John was diagnosed with two forms of cancer back in 2023 – myelodysplastic syndrome and smoldering multiple myeloma.

In an interview with Good Morning America, John says that it’s great to be back on the set of General Hospital, which he considers his second home.

He puts it this way, “Everybody has been very welcoming, very supportive … I can’t tell you how nice it’s been, the support that I’ve gotten.”

The actor also said that if he hadn’t already had ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease back when he was a teenager, his outcome would have looked totally different this time around.

John said that at one point he had a heart-to-heart discussion with his doctor.

He recalled telling his doctor, “’How long would I have if I did nothing?’  And he said, ‘Three to five years.’ And I was like, ‘Three to five years? Are you crazy? I feel fantastic.’”

Luckily, John is back and fans are more than excited to see him on the small screen again.

Some have even commented on his return with, “This is great news. John is such a wonderful man and even better actor. I wish him all the best.”

Another fan wrote, “This just goes to prove once again that anything is possible with a little positive thinking and a whole lot of prayer.”
