In today’s Days of Our Lives, Johnny and Chanel are marveling over all their good news as they leave the hospital. She, though, is worried about breaking the news to her mom.
Paulina’s on a call with Abe while she scrolls the internet at home. She found the Concerned Citizens of Salem website. There’s photoshopped photos of her glowing and her head shaped like an avocado. Abe, from the Horton Square, tells her he’s putting an end to the insanity. They say goodbye and EJ arrives to meet with Abe.
EJ plays dumb about the CCS until Abe tells him the jig is up — he knows EJ started this. “I respect you enormously, Abe, so I’m going to tell you the truth.” Yup, he did it all. “Is there anything else?” Abe tells EJ to stop the nonsense. NOW.
Sorry, but EJ’s just trying to do the right thing. He doesn’t think Paulina has good judgment. “Why, because she fired you as DA?” EJ, again, claims that’s not it. He can devote more time to his new son and his role as acting CEO — though that’ll be permanent soon enough, he smirks. So why bother with this, Abe asks.
Well, it’s too late, sorry. It’s out of his hands now. “Lexie may be gone, but you and I, we’re still family. So let me ask you on a personal level to stop this attack on Paulina.” It’s not an attack, and there’s nothing he can do. Abe leaves with a dig that he should have known an appeal to EJ’s “sense of family loyalty” wouldn’t work. He sees exactly what kind of a man EJ is.
Paulina closes her laptop for a split second, then dives back into the trolls just before Chanel pops in. She tells her mom the baby’s heartbeat is strong, then pivots into the “not so wonderful” news. “You’re moving to Los Angeles??” Paulina is stunned when told. She thinks it’s impulsive and Chanel throws it back in Paulina’s face that she’s the one who has a habit of acting without thinking.
Paulina apologizes for questioning her judgment, but she’s sad to see Chanel leave. What if they grow apart? She apologizes again, but Chanel says without her, she could be dead and her baby too. Right now, the baby looks healthy, so maybe Paulina did the right thing. “It’s time that I forgive you.”
Paulina hugs her delightedly, and things ironed out, wants to through Chanel a going away party.
In the DiMera mansion, Kristen tells Stefan she’s done helping him. She doesn’t need his own help anymore because she’s already got the CEO job at DiMera. Stefan’s confused — isn’t EJ the acting CEO? The board, she says, met in private and offered Kristen the job. Great, he says, she can now use DiMera resources to find evidence for Gabi. “Sorry, Stefan. I can’t do that.”
Wei Shin would kick Kristen to the curb if he found out she was using resources to free his son’s murderer. She believes Gabi is innocent, but her hands are tied. Just calm down, Clyde could come through with the evidence. He won’t stop freaking out… until he decides he’s going to break Gabi free again.
He will do anything to free Gabi, even if it means him spending his life as a fugitive. Fine. She’s got a “Grab and go” kit in the safe in case of emergencies. A boatload of money and names and numbers who can help him disappear. “Consider that a parting gift for you and your beloved.”
They hug and Kristen runs off to the office. They say goodbye… supposedly for good. Stefan’s sorry he’s going to miss EJ’s freakout when he learns he’s not CEO.
Johnny stops by Marlena’s again to thank her for her advice. Everything went great and he accepted the offer. She’s so happy for him, but she’ll miss him, too. Paulina will be a tougher nut to crack. Things are still iffy between her and Chanel, but the good news is the baby’s heartbeat is strong.
Marlena’s so happy, but Johnny admits that at first, he wasn’t sure if they should go through with the pregnancy. But now he’s sure they made the right decision.
Julie calls Chad at the police station to check in. Clyde told him to check out a safe deposit box in Chicago. That’s where they’ll find proof that Abby’s alive. He heads home to talk things over with her and Julie insists she’s going with Chad to Chicago — it could be dangerous. “I haven’t spent all my years pouring tea and babysitting, sweetheart.”
Just as Chad is giving in and saying if there’s any chance Abigail could be alive, Thomas walks in. “Daddy?” He can’t sleep and wants to know how Chad’s trip was. Chad tries brushing the question aside, then Thomas asks “Why did you say mommy’s alive?”
Chad stammers a bit and claims he didn’t say that. Thomas says he did, so Julie steps in to say something about how Abigail is alive in their hearts. “Yeah, that’s what I said.” Chad takes Thomas back up to bed, then comes back down to marvel that it’s been two years since Abigail died. He’s never stopped missing her and doesn’t know what he’ll do if this isn’t true.
In the show’s final moments, Julie says she could throttle Clyde for all he’s done, but Chad says that it’ll be over soon. Tomorrow, they’ll open the deposit box and know if Abby is still alive.
Johnny and Chanel meet at the pub and talk about telling Marlena, Roman and Paulina. They’re all a bit sad, but happy for them. It’s what’s best for Johnny and Chanel.
Back home, Abe arrives to an emotional Paulina, who tells him about Chanel forgiving her. But… Johnny and Chanel are moving to Los Angeles. Abe reassures his wife that they can always go visit and so can Johnny and Chanel. Paulina then asks what Abe’s been up to. He tried getting EJ to back off — but it didn’t work. Paulina stutters a bit: “Karma is going to bite that man right in the… derriere!”
Kristen strolls up to EJ in the Horton Square, saying she hopes there’s no hard feelings just because things didn’t go his way. “What in God’s name are you natting on about?” Oops, Mr. Shin didn’t call? She gleefully breaks the news that he’ll have to update his resume.
Back at the mansion, Stefan opens the safe, grabs the money, opens the envelope… and sees the DNA results that EJ isn’t Jude’s dad. He laughs delightedly.
