We all know that it wouldn’t be a Days of Our Lives wedding if things didn’t go horribly, tragically wrong. Sure, sometimes weddings go off without a hitch, but more often than not, they’re glorious dumpster fires of drama. And this just proved true even with a fake wedding like Maggie and Kosntantin’s!

Just when everyone thought they’d turned the table on Konstantin, he declared that he murdered Victor, took Theresa hostage and shot Steve in his side. If you want to know what happened to Konstantin you’ll probably be happy to know he’s dead and gone. We, though, are a bit more concerned with Steve.

Throughout the episode (you can read the recap here), everyone tried downplaying his gunshot wound, but it was clearly far more than a grazing by the time Sarah got downstairs to tend to him. Still, getting shot is old hat for Steve. That’s like a normal person getting stung by a bee. “Ow! Oh well, moving on.”

But then things got more complicated as, by the end of the episode, John couldn’t get The Pawn card out of his mind, nor Konstantin’s instructions to kill Steve. We thought Marlena had deprogrammed her husband, but seeing as how this is about the 10th time we’ve believed that, maybe we should have been more skeptical.

Because as Monday’s episode ended and Sarah asked John for help, it seemed as if Patch’s partner was gone and The Pawn was back in the driver’s seat once again. So is Steve really in danger?

All of this still wouldn’t be that worrying, but Kayla just had an emotional talk with Steve about how he always puts himself in the line of fire and she’s tired of it. She doesn’t want to lose him. And this is something she knows a great deal about seeing as how he was already thought dead for 16 years after Lawrence Alamain supposedly killed him!

Then this happened.

Sitting at the foot of their bed, Kayla leans into Steve. His arm wraps around her.

It’s tough to tell what’s up ahead — spoilers for this week are frighteningly light on John and Steve. Sometimes, that’s an indication that shows are playing something close to their chest.

We don’t think Steve’s going anywhere… but it wouldn’t be his first exit. And we do have to begrudgingly say that John killing his best friend while under control of The Pawn would make for some incredible stories as he wrestled with that crushing guilt. But Days of Our Lives wouldn’t be that cruel, would it?

Maybe. Konstantin certainly would be, and it’s clear that even if he’s gone, the damage he’s done is going to last for a long time.
