Xander and Sarah’s Days of Our Lives wedding is fast approaching and the invitations are all made up. Now all that’s left is to send them. OK, maybe it’s not the only thing left to do, but it is the next step. And when it comes to inviting Xander’s mum, it’s a huge, potentially disastrous one — for the wrong people, at least!

With Konstantin and Victor dead, Theresa’s the only person left who knows she switched Xander’s name with Alex’s, making the wrong Kiriakis Victor’s heir. But that all goes out the window if the woman who actually wrote the letter to Victor arrives in town: Xander’s mom! Theresa was not happy to learn that her attending the wedding was a possibility today, and we’re sure she’d have panicked even more if she knew that Xander and Sarah finally got an address for the woman!

As you can imagine, whatever comes next is going to be crucial to finding out the truth about Xander being Victor’s son, so Paul Telfer and Linsey Godfrey lay out the invitation shenanigans to Soaps.com!

Sitting on their couch, Xander and Sarah share a fraught look

As for how they get the address, Godfrey jokes about that last minute Hail Mary, saying “[Xander] calls his mom’s sister and I’m like, ‘Why didn’t you do that in the beginning?!’” Well… according to what Xander told Sarah, he didn’t think his mom and aunt would have been in touch. But also, we can probably assume that he’s been dragging his feet on the whole thing.

When we asked why Xander is finally going along with this if he’s got such a problem with his mom and why Sarah is so gung-ho about inviting her, Godfrey points out that, “Sometimes they just have Sarah decide that she’s gonna get super into something.”

That’s kind of a part of her personality. “Sarah definitely has exhibited behavior [along the lines of] ‘curiosity kills the cat,’” Telfer adds. “Of just wanting to pick at things, untangle little knots.” And Xander’s mom is a knot she’s resisted ever since they fell in love.

“When we first got together, it was the time jump,” he reminds us. “So a lot of that stuff has just been hand waved away. Xander is pretty isolated, especially now that Victor’s gone. So it makes sense that Sarah would be like, ‘Well, he does have a mum and I know he’s got problems with her but, you know, Xander’s got problems with everything. So maybe it’s not her fault. Certain parts that don’t make sense about Xander might make sense if I were to meet his mother.’”

At home, Xander kisses Sarah's hand while sitting at their table. A burger sits in a carryout container on the table.

Plus, they’ve got Victoria now. So, “as much as Xander is not super convinced by Sarah’s argument, I, Paul, gets it. I get why somebody would want that, and want a deeper understanding of their partner.”

Ultimately, though, Xander goes along with it mainly as a safe way to keep his wife-to-be happy. “I think the bigger part of it is that Xander just assumes that no matter what Sarah does, his mum won’t show up anyway because she’s so terrible.”

Theresa, though, is worried about the exact opposite. Which is why, Telfer teases, “Theresa finds out and wants to destroy the invitation because she’s worried that my mum will know that Alex isn’t really Victor’s son.”

And she should be worried. All it will take is this one person to completely blow up her life, not just costing her Alex’s fortune, but we’re going to guess any Salem goodwill (and long shot with Brady) she’s got left.

Days' Theresa and Bonnie talk in the Kiriakis living room

“Theresa manages to get hold of [the invitation] and tosses it in the bin,” Telfer continues, “which is silly because in Salem you need to burn things!”

“Even then…” Godfrey laughs.

“Yes,” Telfer agrees, “even then! So Bonnie finds the invitation in the trash and is like, ‘Oh silly Sarah, I bet she’d want me to do this anyway. I might as well just send it.’ And so unbeknownst to Theresa and Sarah and Xander, the invitation has gone out. Now, whether it’s gone to the right address, you have to stay tuned.”

So all of Theresa’s scheming and machinations and Bonnie could be the one to undo everything? That’s going to sting if she is. But then, if anyone can see Theresa for what she is, it’s a fellow (reformed) gold-digging con.

No matter how it shakes out, though, rest assured that before this storyline is over, we will get to meet Xander’s mom — and find out a whole lot more about him than we ever imagined.
