90 Day Fiance: Before the 90 Days’s Angela Deem and Michael Ilesanmi finally met in Nigeria, but was what happened next “rape”? Some fans of the TLC franchise brought this up on social media and made some valid points about the situation. It was awkward from the moment Angela Deem arrived at the airport and Michael Ilesanmi wiped off her kiss and it only went downhill from there.

90 Day Fiance: Before the 90 Days – rape or consensual sex?

Redditor saxonny78 wrote, “The entire episode I was horrified watching Angela Deem and how she treated Michael.” The thread was titled “Gender reversal on Angela’s story = rape.” Consider the age gap – it’s more than 20 years and she’s physically a much larger person than Michael Ilesanmi.

On 90 Day Fiance: Before the 90 Days, they weren’t in the hotel for five minutes when she was grabbing him. Angela shoved him down on the bed, and was making moves. Had Angela only been in a bathrobe, it would have been an almost Weinstein-esque moment. It seemed like Michael Ilesanmi never stood a chance since nothing slowed up Angela.

Michael Ilesanm molested by Angela Deem on Before the 90 Days?

From the first kiss on the last episode of 90 Day Fiance: Before the 90 Days, Michael didn’t seem into her at all. He wiped off the first kiss, said she looked older and larger in “stature” than he expected. Michael also asked her to put on makeup to look younger when they were headed to meet his mom. He didn’t seem into her, but the sex happened anyway…

It wasn’t just her looks that Michael didn’t like, but also her over-the-top personality. Don’t forget, this is a woman that appeared two times on Maury Povich to accuse her daughter Scottie of cheating and having babies by men other than her significant other. You can see that below.

What is the Nigerian law on sexual abuse of males?

Laws in other countries are always a concern on 90 Day Fiance: Before the 90 Days. The American hopefuls looking for love in other countries should know the legalities of their liaisons. Soap Dirt staff took a quick look at the Nigerian laws on sexual abuse, particularly that of males. They consider sexual activity accomplished by coercion as abuse. Would coercion include dangling a US green card in front of someone?

Unfortunately, under Nigerian law, there are no protections for a male from rape. The law doesn’t recognize the act whether perpetrated on the male by another male or a female. Only in the capital city of Abuja is a male protected from rape. Unfortunately for Michael, he lives in Lagos, Nigeria. It’s a lovely area but doesn’t do much to protect males under the law.

Michael tried to stop Angela several times

On the recent 90 Day Fiance: Before the 90 Days, Michael seemed to spend an unwilling night in Angela’s arms. Here’s a quick reminder of how it went:

  • Angela called Michael her “sexy Nigerian baby” while he looked uncomfortable.
  • Michael wiped away her kiss with his little pocket hankie.
  • In the car, Angela grabs at his crotch and he tells her to stop and pushes her hand away.
  • When checking into the hotel, she insisted immediately on one bed (didn’t even ask him).
  • They were barely in the room when she was grabbing for his crotch again.
  • Angela gave him gifts then pounced on him, pushing him onto the bed.
  • She pulled at his pants and said those needed to come off while he said, “baby stop.”
  • Angela said she hadn’t had sex in a year so “he’s in trouble.”
  • Michael tried to encourage her to go to sleep after her long flight, but she wasn’t having it.
  • She grabbed at his crotch again saying the only problem she has is “you’re still dressed.”
  • Angela pounced on him again while he said four times “wait.”
  • The next morning, Angela crowed “it was awesome” while he looked less than enthused.
  • Michael’s comments post-coital were that Angela is “masculine” and “agile.”
  • She tried for morning sex and he gave a resounding “no, no, no, no, no.”

A green card at what cost?

At no point did Michael seem enthusiastic about the sexual encounter with Angela (at least not what aired on TLC). If you’re not willing and into the sexual encounter, doesn’t that make it molestation, at the least? If you offer someone something to entice them to have sex with you (like a green card), that’s transactional, not romantic, right?

All that aside, run back through the scenario above and reverse the roles. Make that a young foreign woman and a 52-year-old large, white, American male. Kind of gives a different perspective. So what do you think fans of 90 Day Fiance: Before the 90 Days? Was that making love or making things awkward? Did it seem like borderline sexual assault?
